Lynbrook Firefighters Honored for Saving a Life
Story and Photos by Steve Grogan
The Nassau County Fire
Commission held its annual lifesaving awards ceremony on April 17,
2019 at the Nassau County Cradle of Aviation Museum at Mitchell
Field. One of the 16
Nassau County firefighter honorees was Lynbrook’s Ex-Captain James
Eisenhauer of Hose Company who was honored for saving the life of a
person last December.
On December 27th, 2018, Ex-Captain Eisenhauer,
who is also a NYC firefighter, while driving in Valley Stream, saw a
woman lying on the ground.
Other people were standing around the victim.
Eisenhauer stopped to help and learned that the woman was
unconscious and not breathing.
Eisenhauer immediately began CPR.
At the same time the Valley Stream FD was responding to a
reported automatic alarm at nearby Green Acres.
VSFD First Assistant Chief Eugene O’Brien responding to the
fire call saw the commotion around the downed woman and stopped to
assist. They were
joined by VSFD firefighter/EMT Richard Fields who also stopped.
Ex-Captain Eisenhauer and the Valley Stream firefighters
continued CPR and used an AED to finally revive the victim.
When the ambulance arrived, the woman had a pulse and was
breathing. The woman
recovered.
Lynbrook Ex-Captain Eisenhauer and Valley
Stream’s Assistant Chief O’Brien and Firefighter/EMT Fields were all
honored together by the Nassau County Fire Commission.
Lynbrook Fire Chief Nick Pearsall and First
Assistant Chief Michael Brooks, as well as a contingent of
firefighters from Lynbrook’s Hose Company were on hand for the
ceremony. Ex-Captain
Eisenhauer’s wife and parents were also in attendance.
