On June 1, 2019, members of Rescue, Hook, Ladder and Bucket Company 1 of the Lynbrook Fire Department, led by Second Assistant Chief John Donald, along with Ex-Chief John O'Reilly, vice-chairman of the Fourth Battalion Fire District, joined Malverne and FDNY firefighters, friends and the Scheer family, as Norwood Avenue in Malverne was dedicated to George Scheer, a New York City and Malverne firefighter who had lived on that street and died from a heart attack in 2018.  The dedication took place on the corner of Norwood and Hempstead Avenues.  Lynbrook Mayor Alan Beach, a retired FDNY lieutenant attended as did Lynbrook Police Chief Brian Paladino.
