Juniors Attend County Fire Training Session Story & photos by Ex Captain Mike Gunning
On Sunday, November 20th, 2016 fourteen members of the Lynbrook
Junior Fire Department and five of their advisors attended the
Nassau County Junior Firefighters Association meeting held at the
Nassau County Fire Marshal's office in Westbury. Over 190 Junior
firefighters attended, and after the meeting concluded the Fire
Marshal's office offered a series of demonstrations to explain to
the Juniors the various capabilities of their organization. The
evolutions included live demonstrations of a propane burn-off and
mitigating a leaking hazardous material drum, a tour of a
decontamination trailer, an accelerant-detecting K9 demonstration,
an apparatus & equipment overview, and demonstrating the
capabilities of their Hazmat Robot. Chief Tusa of the Fire Marshal's
office had approached the Junior Association leadership with the
concept of hosting the meeting and running the demonstration, and it
was one of the most heavily-attended meetings that the Association
has run. Our thanks go out to Chief Tusa and all of his staff who
opened their doors to host the meeting and ran the demonstrations to
help prepare the next generation of Lynbrook's firefighters. |
