Loops of Love Presents to Firefighters Story & photos by Ex Captain Steven Grogan On Saturday, November 7, 2015, members of the Lynbrook Fire Department were on hand at the Lynbrook Library when the Loops of Love organization presented nearly 200 blankets that Lynbrook firefighters and other Nassau firefighters, who are part of Nassau County Firefighters Operation Wounded Warrior, will be presenting to our wounded warriors in military hospitals at Bethesda, MD, and Camp Lejeune and Fort Bragg in North Carolina, the first week of December. In the past eight years, Loops of Love, which was founded by Lynbrook's Barbara Barnhart who is their president, has provided over 1800 blankets to the firefighters to bring to our wounded warriors. Loops of Love volunteers put their time and talents of knitting, crocheting and quilting toward the benefit of others. In 2013, they reached their all time high by making 345 blankets that year for the wounded warriors. Representing Nassau County Firefighters Operation Wounded Warrior, and accepting the blankets, were Joe O'Grady of the Floral Park FD, Chairman of NCFF-OWW, Bill Graham, Garden City FD, Richard Straub, Lynbrook FD, and this writer. Also on hand for the event was Assemblyman Brian Curran. |
