FDNY 343 Ride Stops
at Lynbrook Firehouse
Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan
On Sunday, September 17, 2017, a large contingent of NYC
firefighters rode through Lynbrook during their "7th Annual FDNY343
Ride" from the Freedom Tower in Lower Manhattan to Montauk. The
firefighters made a brief stop at Lynbrook's Vulcan Company
firehouse at Denton Avenue and Merrick Road for refreshments before
continuing on. The bicyclist were led by a group of Fire Rider
motorcycles and a police escort. They will arrive in Montauk
on Monday afternoon. The FDNY 343 Ride, which remembers the 343
firefighters killed on 9-11, was started to raise money for severely
wounded
soldiers coming home from war. This year the FDNY firefighters hope
to purchase new TrackChairs at $16,000 each, which are all terrain
wheel chairs for deserving wounded warriors. The bike riders make
the stop at Vulcan's firehouse each year. |
