New Chiefs & Officers Take Command for 2016-17 Story & photos by Ex Captain Steven Grogan At the Council Meeting of the Lynbrook Fire Department on April 19, 2016, outgoing Chief James McDermott turned over the department to incoming Chief John Chavatte of Hose Company. Chief McDermott, who served once before as Lynbrook's Chief, completed another round of service as an Assistant Chief for three years and the past year as Chief of Department. Lynbrook Mayor William Hendrick was on hand to swear in Chief Chavatte and his assistant chiefs, William Abrams, Carl Lengel, and Nick Pearsall. After the swearing in the mayor opened two bottles of champagne to toast the outgoing chief and the incoming chief and his assistant chiefs. Chief Chavatte then swore in the officers for the coming year of the five fire companies, the Medical Company, and the Floodlight Unit. Lynbrook Village Administrator John Giordano also swore in the wardens of the department. A collation was then held at Hose Company to celebrate the occasion. |
