Wounded Warrior Concert 2016 Story & photos by Ex Captain Steven Grogan On September 24, 2016, the Lynbrook Fire Department sponsored its Concert for the Troops at Truck Company's firehouse. This is the department's sixth year of holding this event which has raised, prior to this year, about $100,000 for Nassau County Firefighters Operation Wounded Warrior. Two special guests at the concert was former US Marine and honorary Lynbrook firefighter Marcus Dandrea, and US Army Sergeant Robert Scott. Dandrea lives in Virginia but receives treatment at Bethesda. SGT. Scott, of Lakeview, who is now also residing in Virginia, is receiving treatment at Fort Belvior.
One of the major sponsors of this event is JetBlue which donated
four sets of JetBlue tickets to anywhere they fly. That
donation would not have been possible without the help of Donna
Lemay, a VP at JetBlue, who lives in Lynbrook. Another major
sponsor is Best Buy Supermarkets because of the help of Christopher
Myers. The wounded warrior committee would like to recognize
our Chairman Kevin Bien and our letter writer and donation hunter
Lynne Donnelly of the Ladies Auxiliary. The committee would
also like to thank the members of the department for all their help,
especially the Ladies Auxiliary who manned the entrance tables and
the Junior firefighters who sold t-shirts. Thanks also goes to
the many people and businesses who donated prizes and also the
people and residents who came and supported the event. |
