Insulation Burns
Story & Photos by Ex-Captain & Honorary Chief Steve Grogan
Lynbrook firefighters under the command of Chief Nick Pearsall
responded to a reported "rubbish fire" in the lumber yard at 120
Whitehall Street opposite Horton Avenue on October 30, 2019, shortly
after 5 PM. In the lumber yard were stacks of hard-foamed
sheets of insulation. The fire was in the middle of the pile
and allegedly reaching over ten feet in the air. The fire was
first knocked down by employees of the lumber yard but firefighters
from Tally-Ho, who arrived first on the scene, took the hydrant on
the corner, and stretched a hose line into the yard and wet down the
remaining stacks of insulation. Truck Company assisted with the
overhaul and movement of the piles of insulation. Firefighters
were on the scene for about 30 minutes. |
