Suspected Drunk Driver Smashes Downtown Storefront

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain/Hon. Chief Steve Grogan

A driver was arrested Sunday night, December 22, 2019, by Lynbrook police for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after the female driver backed into a storefront on Stauderman Avenue, destroying the front of the store, then driving forward down the street and smashing into the LIRR cement stanchion on the other side of Atlantic Avenue.  Lynbrook police and Lynbrook firefighters responded to the scene.  The firefighters from Engine Company and Truck Company, under the command of Chief NIck Pearsall, inspected the damage and the building structure.  Members of the Emergency Medical Company also responded and assisted Lynbrook police where the car and driver ended up.  The driver was taken away to the hospital in a Nassau County police ambulance.  The village's building department was also called to the scene. Mayor Beach also responded.  Police Chief Brian Paladino verified that the driver was arrested.  In the below photos notice the storefront sheetrock on the front and rear of the vehicle.
