2019 Christmas Fire Truck Rides
Story and Photos by Ex-Captain/Hon Chief Steve Grogan
On Saturday, December 14, 2019, the Lynbrook Fire Department held
their annual Christmas fire truck rides for the children of
Lynbrook. The firefighters have been doing this at Christmas
time for over 65 years. After the children and many of their
parents took a ride on one of the rigs around the village
downtown area they got to meet with Santa, along with some cookies
and hot chocolate at the Earle Avenue firehouse. Most kids
then went back on the line for another trip on another fire truck.
The rides went from 12 noon to 3 PM. Two wounded warriors from
the Wounded Warrior Battalion at Fort Belvoir, VA, who Lynbrook
firefighters met during the firefighter's trips to Bethesda and Fort
Belvoir on December 6, to bring them Christmas, came up from Belvoir
to bring their children to our fire truck rides. One of the
soldiers is from Hempstead and the other is from Flushing. The
Flushing soldier was interviewed by Lynbrook TV during their TV
coverage of the rides. Chief Nick Pearsall and Assistant Chiefs Mike
Brooks, John Donald, and Chris Kelly were in attendance and got a
chance to sit with Santa. The chief offered a Merry Christmas,
Happy Hanukah and a Happy New Year to all the residents of Lynbrook.
