Brush Fire Extinguished Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan |
|
On Friday evening, February 29, 2008, the Lynbrook Fire Department, under the command of Chief Robert Occhipinti, responded to numerous calls from residents reporting fires in the woods behind Wood Street and in the area abutting the Long Island Railroad tracks. Engine Company and Tally-Ho Company came into the woods from both ends and quickly extinguished eight separate fires found burning. The fires were deemed suspicious by the chief and the Fire Marshal’s Office was notified. Residents reported to the Lynbrook police that youths had been seen earlier in the woods. |
