Firefighters Free Trapped Passenger Story & photos by Ex Captain Steven Grogan
Lynbrook firefighters from the Extrication Team used the Jaws of Life to remove the crushed passenger front door on a Mercedes Benz to remove the passenger, who along with the driver, her mother, were injured in a three vehicle accident at the intersection of Peninsula Blvd. and Hempstead Avenue on the afternoon of Friday, April 23, 2010. According to eyewitnesses at the scene the Mercedes was making a left into Hempstead Avenue from Peninsula when it was hit in the passenger side by a pick-up towing a construction tractor. The force of the accident turned the Mercedes around and sent it up on the curb where it drove under the Merrick Road street sign. The pick-up then collided with a Jeep stopped at the light on Hempstead Avenue. The Emergency Medical Company also responded to the scene with both ambulances. Additionally, Hose Company also responded and assisted. Medical Company personnel stabilized the two injured in the Mercedes and put them on stretchers. The driver of the Jeep walked to the ambulance. All three were transported by the Medical Company to the hospital. |
