Overturn on Sunrise Hwy

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

The Lynbrook Fire Department under the command of First Assistant Chief Michael Anderson responded to a reported auto accident and overturn on Sunrise Highway near the Lynbrook Diner at 8:23 AM on Thursday, September 19, 2013.  According to sources at the scene a woman driving a VW sedan eastbound on Sunrise Highway collided with a vehicle coming out of the driveway of the Lynbrook Diner.  The VW sedan flipped end over end a number of times before landing on its top in the middle of Sunrise Highway opposite Randall Avenue.  The second vehicle was pushed up on the curb in front of the diner where it knocked down one of the decorative light posts.  The light post then fell into and broke one of the diner front windows.  Sitting in the diner at the time was Ex-Chief Garry Pazmann who heard the accident and ran outside.  He was able to get into the car and pull the driver out of her upside down vehicle.  The Extrication Team and Emergency Medical Company responded to the scene.  Both drivers, not seriously hurt, were transported to the hospital.  Eastbound Sunrise Highway was re-opened about 45 minutes later when the car was removed.
