WETDOWN OF NEW FLOODLIGHT TRUCK

Story by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan, Photos by Firefighter Brian Grogan

On Sunday, December 9, 2007, the Floodlight Unit of the Lynbrook Fire Department held a wet down and christening of their new 2007 Marion Motor Works built Floodlight Command vehicle which is on a Sterling chassis.  The truck went into service on November 11th.  First Lieutenant and Ex-Chief James Hillgardner introduced the officers, chiefs, the truck committee, as well as the mayor and village trustee, Chaplain Father Breslowski, and Assemblyman Bob Barra, who were all on hand for the dedication.  Father Bill sprinkled holy water on the vehicle and Captain and Ex-Chief Robert Cribbin, with the assistance of First Lt Hillgardner and Second Lt and Ex-Chief John Matzen, broke the ceremonial bottle of champagne on the front bumper of the truck.  In addition, Mayor Brian Curran, a firefighter, and Deputy Mayor Bill Hendrick, the fire department liaison, spoke briefly as did Chief Robert Occhipinti, who symbolically turned over the keys to the new truck to Captain Cribbin.  Assemblyman Barra presented a Citation to the Unit.  Tally-Ho Engine 3 then turned on its deck gun and wet down the new truck.   A collation followed in Engine Company 1’s firehouse.
