On Sunday, April 26, 2009, St. Mary's/Maris Stella Council #2228 of the Knights of Columbus in Lynbrook held their 88th Annual Communion Breakfast and honored both the Lynbrook and Malverne Fire Departments with their 2009 Humanitarians of the Year award.   After the 9:30 AM Mass by Father Frank Parisi at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Malverne, the two departments returned to the K of C for breakfast.  During the breakfast the Humanitarian awards were presented by the K of C Grand Knight Charles Rosaschi to Lynbrook Chief Kevin A. Bien and Malverne Chief Richard Lang.   Those in attendance then heard a talk by Father Charles Keeney who had been a classmate of Father Larry Penzes and had previously assisted at Sunday Masses at Our Lady of Peace.  During the breakfast the Lynbrook Fire Department's Emergency Medical Company was called out to respond on a mutual aid to a Long Beach building fire.  Chiefs Bien and Ray Burke responded to Long Beach with the Medical Company.
