On April 8, 2006 just before noon, the Lynbrook Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 14 St. Nicholas Street. Upon arrival on scene, Chief James McDermott transmitted a "signal 10" - working house fire. A mattress in a second floor bedroom was on fire. The quick knock down of the fire kept it from spreading further. Mutual Aid came from Valley Stream and Malverne. The fire was extinguished in under 30 minutes.
