Story by Shannan Murphy Photos by Shannon Murphy, Steve Grogan & Bill Bennett At 4:00am on the morning of December 21, 2005, the Lynbrook Fire Department was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm at 479 Sunrise Highway, B.K. Sweeney's Bar and Grill. Upon arrival at the scene, Chief James McDermott transmitted a "signal 10." Within minutes, the Department began working towards knocking down the fire, believed to have started in the kitchen. The quick response by the members kept the fire from spreading to adjacent stores. Neighboring departments were called to assist at the scene: Valley Stream FAST team, Rockville Centre Truck, and East Rockaway Truck along with medical assistance from Hewlett, East Rockaway and Lakeview. Additional units from Rockville Centre and Hewlett were also called in to stand-by in Lynbrook quarters. The fire is under investigation. |
